A K+DCAN cable alternative for BMW
A K+DCAN cable is how most owners connect BMW's own tools (INPA, NCS Expert, ISTA) to an E-chassis BMW: a USB cable from the OBD2 socket to a Windows laptop. It speaks the K-line, which older E-chassis cars use, and D-CAN, which they switched to from about 2007. Many cables have a switch to join pins 7 and 8 for cars that put a second K-line on pin 8, and the laptop's COM port and the tools need setting up before anything reads.
AutoLingo for BMW's Bluetooth adapter speaks the K-line and D-CAN too, with pins 7 and 8 joined inside, so there's no switch and no laptop: the free app reads the faults, live data and service functions from your phone or tablet.
