BMW fault code CDA5

Engine electronics

In the engine electronics, code CDA5 means different things depending on the version of the module in the car. Find your car below; the app shows the right one for yours.

Message (status, DSC, 0x19E) incorrect, receiver DME, transmitter DSC

Module versions: Engine electronics (MS450DS0), Engine electronics (MS_S65), Engine electronics (MS_S65_2), Engine electronics (MS_S65_3), Engine electronics (MSD80), Engine electronics (MSD80N43), Engine electronics (MSD85), Engine electronics (MSD85Y), Engine electronics (MSS60), Engine electronics (MSV70), Engine electronics (MSV80)

Which BMWs have these versions depends on the engine and equipment, so we don't list them here; AutoLingo for BMW reads which version your car has.

PT-CAN, message (steering torque request, 0xB1): AFS/STE disabled or steering torque invalid

Module versions: Engine electronics (MEVD174K), Engine electronics (MEVD176K)

Which BMWs have these versions depends on the engine and equipment, so we don't list them here; AutoLingo for BMW reads which version your car has.

PT-CAN2: message (actual data, parking lock, 0x35B) incorrect, receiver EME, transmitter EME

Module version: Engine electronics (EDME82)

Which BMWs have this version depends on the engine and equipment, so we don't list them here; AutoLingo for BMW reads which version your car has.

Message error (torque request, steering, 0xB1), DME receiver, DSC transmitter (PT-CAN message steering torque request AFS/STE disabled or steering torque invalid)

Module version: Engine electronics (MEVD17KW)

Which BMWs have this version depends on the engine and equipment, so we don't list them here; AutoLingo for BMW reads which version your car has.

Reading and clearing it

Fault code CDA5 is a BMW code, stored in the car's engine electronics, not a generic OBD2 code (P0xxx): a generic OBD2 reader only reaches the engine's emissions faults, so it won't show it. AutoLingo for BMW reads it with BMW's own diagnostic protocols, in plain English, with the details the module stored about it, and clears it after a repair. If a fault comes right back after it's cleared, the problem is still there.
