BMW electric steering lock fault codes
The 41 fault codes the electric steering lock can store, and what each one means. Some codes mean different things in different versions of the module; tap a code to see which applies to your car.

- 0000 ELV: Internal fault (watchdog)
- 0001 ELV: Internal fault (processor ROM)
- 0002 ELV: Internal fault (clock generator)
- 0003 ELV: Internal fault (EEPROM)
- 0004 ELV: Internal fault (RAM check)
- 0005 ELV: Internal fault (ROM check)
- 0007 ELV: Coding omitted or faulty
- 0010 ELV: Internal fault (securing magnet, short circuit) (SI-magnet driver defective Ub short circuit)
- 0011 ELV: Internal fault (securing magnet, short circuit) (SI-magnet driver defective Gnd short circuit or open circuit)
- 0012 ELV: Internal fault (end-position detection) (both end position detections active simultaneously)
- 0013 ELV: Internal fault (Hall-effect sensor, securing magnet)
- 0014 ELV: Internal fault (Hall-effect sensor, P/N release)
- 0015 ELV: Internal fault (end-position detection) (hall sensor 'end position locked' open circuit or short circuit)
- 0016 ELV: Internal fault (end-position detection) (hall sensor 'end position unlocked' open circuit or short circuit)
- 0017 ELV: Mechanical fault during locking (number of attempts exceeded)
- 0018 ELV: Internal fault (interrupt relay)
- 0019 ELV: Internal fault (voltage monitoring)
- 001A ELV: Internal fault (locking-plate motor) ('unlock')
- 001B ELV: Internal fault (securing magnet faulty)
- 001C ELV: Mechanical fault during unlocking
- 001D ELV: Internal fault (securing magnet, short circuit) (locking magnet driver short circuit)
- 001E ELV: Mechanical fault during locking (end position 'unlock' not left)
- 001F ELV: Internal fault (sensor voltage)
- 002A ELV: Internal fault (locking-plate motor) ('lock')
- 002B SI solenoid driver locking over Terminal 15 defective
- 0040 ELV: K-bus or EWS fault
- 0041 ELV: Turning lock, short circuit to B+
- 0042 ELV: Turning lock, short circuit to B- or open circuit
- 0043 ELV: P/N-EWS wire, short circuit to B-
- 0044 ELV: P/N-EWS wire, short circuit to B+
- 0045 ELV: Rotation detection faulty
- 0046 ELV: Rotation detection faulty (Hall-effect sensor)
- 0047 ELV: Term. R or term. 15, short circuit
- 0048 ELV: Roadspeed signal implausible
- 0080 ELV: Fault during locking procedure
- 0081 ELV: Fault during unlocking procedure
- 0083 ELV: Overload protection activated
- 0085 ELV: Undervoltage during unlocking procedure
- 0086 ELV: Crash was triggered
- 0087 ELV: Locking lock, undervoltage active
- 0088 ELV: Term. R or term. 15 drop not confirmed via K bus
